Catherine Taylor, 70, of Redding Road in Fairfield, was killed by her ex-husband, James Taylor, 76, also of Fairfield, around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, said Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras.
The woman was found when officers from the Fairfield Police Department responded to a home on Catamount Road for a domestic violence call, said Kalamaras.
Initial officers arrived on scene and found a serious a domestic assault had taken place inside the home and quickly took the ex-husband into custody, police said.
An investigation later determined that James Taylor had forced his way into the home with a firearm and fired at the victim. A struggle ensued between the victim’s son, who heard the disturbance, Kalamaras said.
Police arrived shortly after and took Taylor into custody.
During his arraignment on Monday, A Superior Court judge ordered Taylor held on $2 million bond on charges of murder, attempted murder, home invasion, burglary, assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.
His case has been continued to Tuesday, Feb. 19.
